Connect Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central to Hypamoon

Yes. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central has a public, versioned API and you create the key yourself, so your chat can write the adapter.

The check

Three questions about the API of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, answered from its own docs.

Public API docs
Yes. Read the docs
A key you create yourself
Yes. You register an app in your own Microsoft Entra ID and allow it in Business Central. learn.microsoft.com
Versions or a changelog
Yes. Versioned API (v2.0) and a documented list of deprecated features. learn.microsoft.com
How it signs in
OAuth 2.0 through Microsoft Entra ID, including client credentials for unattended integrations. On premises, a web service access key with basic auth is still possible.
Webhooks
Yes. It can tell your app when something changes. learn.microsoft.com
Hosting
Cloud and self-hosted

In practice

What it takes in a real Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central administration.

Getting access
Your IT administrator registers an app in your own Microsoft Entra ID with API permissions, then adds it on the Microsoft Entra Applications page in Business Central and gives it permission sets.
Limits
Online, per user or app: 6,000 OData or API requests per 5 minutes, 5 processed at the same time and 100 connections including queued ones; at most 20,000 records per page and 8 minutes per request. Over the limit you get HTTP 429. learn.microsoft.com
Writing
Read and write. Create and update customers, items, sales orders, sales invoices, journals and more through the standard v2.0 API; extra fields need a custom API page.
Cost
No licence is needed for a service to service app with client credentials; with delegated sign in or basic auth the calls run as a licensed user. learn.microsoft.com

What you can build

A web shop or intake form that creates customers and sales orders straight in Business Central, and a chat answer on stock and open invoices per customer.

Your chat writes it as a Hypamoon adapter from the docs above. Reading starts after you click Allow in the portal, and every write waits for your approval, one call at a time. How adapters work

Good to know

  • Your adapter uses a fixed key: you paste it once in the Hypamoon portal, never in the chat, and it only goes to the API host you allow.
  • For Business Central on premises, your server must be reachable from the internet over HTTPS, and the APIs depend on your installed version and extensions.
  • Basic auth with web service access keys stopped working online in October 2022.

Try it in your chat

Fill in what to read and write, and send it.

Build the Hypamoon recipe build-an-adapter for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. API docs: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/dev-itpro/api-reference/v2.0/. Read: [what]. Write: [what, or nothing].

In Claude, or another chat with the full Hypamoon connection; adapters are not in ChatGPT yet. You paste the key in the portal, never in the chat. The full recipe

Tool not listed? Ask the chat to check its API.

The same three checks work for any software. Your chat reads the vendor's own docs and tells you what it found.

Say this in your chat

Check if [software] has an open API that a Hypamoon adapter can use: public API docs, a key or token I can create myself without asking the vendor, and versions or a changelog. Link the pages you used.

Fill in the name of your software. Checking needs no connection to Hypamoon.
