# Connect PayPal to Hypamoon

Yes, with one catch. PayPal has an open API that you can use yourself, but it signs in with OAuth only, and that takes more work in a Hypamoon adapter today.

## The check

Three questions about the API of PayPal, answered from its own docs.

**Public API docs**\
**Yes.** [Read the docs](https://developer.paypal.com/api/rest/)

**A key you create yourself**\
**Yes.** Create a REST app under Apps & Credentials in the developer dashboard to get a client ID and secret. [developer.paypal.com](https://developer.paypal.com/api/rest/)

**Versions or a changelog**\
**Yes.** Versioned paths such as /v2/checkout/orders and release notes per API. [developer.paypal.com](https://developer.paypal.com/api/rest/release-notes/release-notes-orders)

**How it signs in**\
Client ID and secret from your own REST app, exchanged for a short lived access token.

**Webhooks**\
**Yes.** It can tell your app when something changes. [developer.paypal.com](https://developer.paypal.com/api/rest/webhooks/)

**Hosting**\
Cloud

**Condition**\
Live use needs a PayPal Business account.

## What you can build

Look up orders, payments and invoices from your chat, and draft invoices for approval.

Your chat writes it as a Hypamoon adapter from the docs above. Reading starts after you click Allow in the portal, and every write waits for your approval, one call at a time. [How adapters work](https://hypamoon.com/docs/adapters)

### Good to know

- PayPal signs in with OAuth or signed requests only, with tokens that expire. The Hypamoon vault holds a fixed key today, so an adapter for PayPal takes more work: ask your chat to check this first.
- Some older endpoints, such as Payments v1 and Invoicing v1, are deprecated; use the v2 APIs.

## Try it in your chat

Fill in what to read and write, and send it.

Say this in your chat

> Build the Hypamoon recipe build-an-adapter for PayPal. API docs: https://developer.paypal.com/api/rest/. Read: \[what\]. Write: \[what, or nothing\].

In Claude, or another chat with the full Hypamoon connection; adapters are not in ChatGPT yet. You paste the key in the portal, never in the chat. [The full recipe](https://hypamoon.com/r/build-an-adapter)

## Tool not listed? Ask the chat to check its API.

The same three checks work for any software. Your chat reads the vendor's own docs and tells you what it found.

Say this in your chat

> Check if \[software\] has an open API that a Hypamoon adapter can use: public API docs, a key or token I can create myself without asking the vendor, and versions or a changelog. Link the pages you used.

Fill in the name of your software. Checking needs no connection to Hypamoon.
