# Connect Firebase to Hypamoon

Yes, with one catch. Firebase has an open API that you can use yourself, but it signs in with OAuth only, and that takes more work in a Hypamoon adapter today.

## The check

Three questions about the API of Firebase, answered from its own docs.

**Public API docs**\
**Yes.** [Read the docs](https://firebase.google.com/docs/firestore/use-rest-api)

**A key you create yourself**\
**Yes.** Create a service account in your own Google Cloud project and use it to get an OAuth 2.0 token; no review needed. [firebase.google.com](https://firebase.google.com/docs/firestore/use-rest-api)

**Versions or a changelog**\
**Yes.** Versioned REST paths (Firestore v1) and public release notes. [firebase.google.com](https://firebase.google.com/support/releases)

**How it signs in**\
Google OAuth 2.0 access token from a service account key for server use; Firebase ID tokens for requests on behalf of app users. The Realtime Database still accepts legacy database secrets.

**Webhooks**\
**No.** [firebase.google.com](https://firebase.google.com/docs/functions/firestore-events)

**Hosting**\
Cloud

## What you can build

Look up and update documents in Firestore from your chat, for example orders or bookings your app stores.

Your chat writes it as a Hypamoon adapter from the docs above. Reading starts after you click Allow in the portal, and every write waits for your approval, one call at a time. [How adapters work](https://hypamoon.com/docs/adapters)

### Good to know

- Firebase signs in with OAuth or signed requests only, with tokens that expire. The Hypamoon vault holds a fixed key today, so an adapter for Firebase takes more work: ask your chat to check this first.
- Firebase has no outgoing webhooks; to react to changes you write a Cloud Function on a Firestore trigger. Requests with a service account skip Security Rules and use IAM instead.

## Try it in your chat

Fill in what to read and write, and send it.

Say this in your chat

> Build the Hypamoon recipe build-an-adapter for Firebase. API docs: https://firebase.google.com/docs/firestore/use-rest-api. Read: \[what\]. Write: \[what, or nothing\].

In Claude, or another chat with the full Hypamoon connection; adapters are not in ChatGPT yet. You paste the key in the portal, never in the chat. [The full recipe](https://hypamoon.com/r/build-an-adapter)

## Tool not listed? Ask the chat to check its API.

The same three checks work for any software. Your chat reads the vendor's own docs and tells you what it found.

Say this in your chat

> Check if \[software\] has an open API that a Hypamoon adapter can use: public API docs, a key or token I can create myself without asking the vendor, and versions or a changelog. Link the pages you used.

Fill in the name of your software. Checking needs no connection to Hypamoon.
