# Connect Clio to Hypamoon

Yes, with one catch. Clio has an open API that you can use yourself, but it signs in with OAuth only, and that takes more work in a Hypamoon adapter today.

## The check

Three questions about the API of Clio, answered from its own docs.

**Public API docs**\
**Yes.** [Read the docs](https://docs.developers.clio.com/api-docs/clio-manage/)

**A key you create yourself**\
**Yes.** Sign in to the Clio Manage developer portal with your Clio Manage account and create an OAuth app; the client ID and secret are on its settings page. [docs.developers.clio.com](https://docs.developers.clio.com/handbook/getting-started/clio-manage-and-clio-platform/)

**Versions or a changelog**\
**Yes.** The Manage API is version 4, with v4 in every path. [docs.developers.clio.com](https://docs.developers.clio.com/clio-manage/api-reference/)

**How it signs in**\
OAuth 2.0 authorization code flow with a Bearer token; Manage access tokens last 30 days and the refresh token does not expire until revoked.

**Webhooks**\
**Yes.** It can tell your app when something changes. [docs.developers.clio.com](https://docs.developers.clio.com/api-docs/clio-manage/)

**Hosting**\
Cloud

## What you can build

Look up matters, contacts and upcoming deadlines from your chat, and log time entries or notes with your approval.

Your chat writes it as a Hypamoon adapter from the docs above. Reading starts after you click Allow in the portal, and every write waits for your approval, one call at a time. [How adapters work](https://hypamoon.com/docs/adapters)

### Good to know

- Clio signs in with OAuth or signed requests only, with tokens that expire. The Hypamoon vault holds a fixed key today, so an adapter for Clio takes more work: ask your chat to check this first.
- Clio Grow uses a separate Clio Platform portal and app. Webhooks expire after three days unless you set a later date, and there is no sandbox, so you test on a developer account.

## Try it in your chat

Fill in what to read and write, and send it.

Say this in your chat

> Build the Hypamoon recipe build-an-adapter for Clio. API docs: https://docs.developers.clio.com/api-docs/clio-manage/. Read: \[what\]. Write: \[what, or nothing\].

In Claude, or another chat with the full Hypamoon connection; adapters are not in ChatGPT yet. You paste the key in the portal, never in the chat. [The full recipe](https://hypamoon.com/r/build-an-adapter)

## Tool not listed? Ask the chat to check its API.

The same three checks work for any software. Your chat reads the vendor's own docs and tells you what it found.

Say this in your chat

> Check if \[software\] has an open API that a Hypamoon adapter can use: public API docs, a key or token I can create myself without asking the vendor, and versions or a changelog. Link the pages you used.

Fill in the name of your software. Checking needs no connection to Hypamoon.
