# Connect Box to Hypamoon

Yes, with one catch. Box has an open API that you can use yourself, but it signs in with OAuth only, and that takes more work in a Hypamoon adapter today.

## The check

Three questions about the API of Box, answered from its own docs.

**Public API docs**\
**Yes.** [Read the docs](https://developer.box.com/reference/)

**A key you create yourself**\
**Yes.** Create a platform app in the Box Developer Console and let your own Box admin authorize it; no review by Box. [developer.box.com](https://developer.box.com/guides/authentication/client-credentials/)

**Versions or a changelog**\
**Yes.** Versioned paths (/2.0/), a versioning strategy page and a developer changelog. [developer.box.com](https://developer.box.com/changelog/)

**How it signs in**\
Client credentials grant with the client ID and secret of a server app, which returns a 60 minute token; JWT and user OAuth 2.0 are also supported.

**Webhooks**\
**Yes.** It can tell your app when something changes. [developer.box.com](https://developer.box.com/guides/webhooks/)

**Hosting**\
Cloud

**Condition**\
A Box admin must authorize the server app in the Admin Console before it can be used.

## What you can build

Upload intake documents into the right customer folder, search files from your chat, and get a message when a file is added.

Your chat writes it as a Hypamoon adapter from the docs above. Reading starts after you click Allow in the portal, and every write waits for your approval, one call at a time. [How adapters work](https://hypamoon.com/docs/adapters)

### Good to know

- Box signs in with OAuth or signed requests only, with tokens that expire. The Hypamoon vault holds a fixed key today, so an adapter for Box takes more work: ask your chat to check this first.
- With the client credentials grant the app acts as its own service account by default; give that account access to the folders it needs.

## Try it in your chat

Fill in what to read and write, and send it.

Say this in your chat

> Build the Hypamoon recipe build-an-adapter for Box. API docs: https://developer.box.com/reference/. Read: \[what\]. Write: \[what, or nothing\].

In Claude, or another chat with the full Hypamoon connection; adapters are not in ChatGPT yet. You paste the key in the portal, never in the chat. [The full recipe](https://hypamoon.com/r/build-an-adapter)

## Tool not listed? Ask the chat to check its API.

The same three checks work for any software. Your chat reads the vendor's own docs and tells you what it found.

Say this in your chat

> Check if \[software\] has an open API that a Hypamoon adapter can use: public API docs, a key or token I can create myself without asking the vendor, and versions or a changelog. Link the pages you used.

Fill in the name of your software. Checking needs no connection to Hypamoon.
